There are 4 outlets to use, 2 USB type A ports, 1 USB type-c port, And a built-in USBC cord that is retractable and has a magnet that allows you to fit the cord up against the strip. The maximum output for the USBC is 20W. The retractable cord is not that long, maybe about 3 ft, so if you have it on the floor next to a side table, you would have to keep the phone or device that you are charging on the table itself. Because this product is light and has a long cord, you could also just put it up on to the table or desk that you are using. That will work sufficiently enough. You also have the option of using screws and mounting it up against the wall since the product comes with screw notches in the bottom. That would create a situation where you can mount it up near the side table or on the side of a desk and not have to keep it on the ground. It definitely provides plenty of options for you. Having all of these features provides convenience compared to a traditional power strip. While you can't charge a laptop using the 20 w, you still have the option of the traditional outlet to plug in a laptop charger. This makes it viable for college use as well. Price wise, this is a pretty good value, that you will find many of competitive options at this price range. So find what features work best for you.
